Manchester United are preparing to table a world record bid for Antoine Griezmann. United already spent a hefty amount of transfer fee on Paul Pogba but are ready to flex their money power to bring the French forward to Old Trafford. Having won the Europa League, it will be easy for the Red Devils to entice the Frenchman by offering him the lure of Champions League. Recent reports reveal that United are ready to make him one of the highest-paid players in the club’s history and a bid of £86m is looming large.
Griezmann can play in a number of positions and it will be very interesting to see how Mourinho utilises him. Basically a centre-forward, he can also be used on the flanks. However, the future of Diego Simeone could be a block in his transfer. The Argentine recently revealed that he will remain at the Vicente Calderon for another season and Griezmann might reconsider his future based just on that.
Griezmann’s inclusion would leave Mourinho with a variety of options and United could shape up with a number of formations. Here is how Griezmann might fit in at the club:
Centre forward
The easy option is to employ him up front. He has played the entire season upfront at Atletico Madrid and has been very successful with his goal scoring antics. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial should be on the flanks and it will give a whole new dimension to the team. The absence of a prolific goal scorer had dashed their hopes in the recently concluded season. United created a number of chances in the last season and Griezmann can add that to their play.
No .10 position
Mourinho tried a number of player in the no.10 position but none of them seemed to have the creativity to thrive there. Henrikh Mkhitaryan was decent in that position but Mourinho will be hoping for a certain upgrade in that position. Paul Pogba’s ideal position is in the midfield as the French man would love to use the depth of the field.
Griezman could sit just behind the main striker and would work as the catalyst for United’s attack. Fitting him in that position would not be a problem for Mourinho as United already have a number of versatile attackers at their disposal.
Wideman
Griezmann started his career on the flanks and he could be the preferable options on either wing. The Portuguese gaffer had to deploy Rashford and Martial on the wings as he didn’t have that kind of options on the flanks but they can revert to their regular positions, allowing Griezmann to wreck havoc on the flanks.
