Manchester United are growing desperate for some quality additions this summer and Jose Mourinho is ready to activate the release clause of one of the most exciting players in Europe at the moment. According to Duncan Castles, a reporter for the Daily Record, the Brazil international has told his friends that the English outfit will meet his valuation of €200m this summer. If United do so, Barcelona have no option but to sell. But is Neymar worth €200m for the Red Devils?
Barcelona are currently at the top of the La Liga table but arch rivals Real Madrid are level on points with a game in hand. With no Champions League to turn to, Luis Enrique will go for maximum points in the remainder of the season and will hope to take his team to their third consecutive La Liga title this season. And the Brazilian sensation has to play a huge role if Barcelona are to achieve that impeccable feat.
With a return of 15 goals and 22 assists in 40 competitions all season, Neymar is right up there with one of the most productive forwards in Europe at the moment. He is a player with all the skills in the book and having learnt to use them wisely, he now stands as one of the best players in the final third in Europe.
Slick passing and mesmerising dribbling abilities that he has, makes him that much more dangerous while playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez has also had its effect on the player. Neymar has grown into a world-class star with consistent performances for club and country in the last couple of years and there are very few players in the world at the moment that can match his ability with the ball at his feet.
He can score, create goals, hold up play and dictate the game, all while seemingly enjoying the game. He is the most fouled player in Spain and is already used to taking knocks for his team, something that will make him an instant hit in England.
Manchester United have the likes of Anthony Martial, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford as the only players at the moment who could be in the attacking lineup for the club next season. Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic may not be at the club for another season and those are some big names to replace in one summer.
United are looking at the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Romelu Lukaku and Andrea Belotti to solve this problem but Neymar represents a far more exciting option. Capable of playing on the flank even twice a week regularly, Neymar will push Martial and Rashford into their more productive spot, leading the attacking line.
He will add the impetus to the United attack that has been missing this season but at €200m, he is one heck of an investment. His ability to play outside Spain is hardly in question, but having never played in England, he will surely take his time to get used to the conditions and United should give him such time if they are really ready to break the bank for his services. Do you think United should spend on Neymar this summer?
