Mauricio Pochettino’s side have made decent progress this season but Pochettino is yet again looking to add some star names to the squad to help them take the next step, next season.
The manager has been looking to improve most areas in the squad and though he might not be able to land the biggest names in Europe, he is looking for some exciting youngsters who could be ready to work with him at the Lane. One such player who could be on his way to the White Hart Lane this summer is Anderlecht star Youri Tielemans.
Though reports today suggest that he is leaning towards a move to AS Monaco, Tielemans should consider a move to London, to join a team that values the youthfulness in every player.
At just 19 years of age, Tielemans already has a couple of appearances for the national side to add to his 128 league appearances in Belgium. He is one of the most exciting stars in Europe, but what will he add to the squad at the Lane?
A central midfielder who loves to have the ball at his feet, Tielemans has exceptional ball control in close quarters, making him a superb option in the midfield in the Premier League. His touches, shimmies, and turns, are just a treat to watch as he is adept in turning away from danger in his own area.
His range of passing makes him even more effective but the biggest strength for the 19-year-old, astonishingly, is his concentration. Playing slightly ahead of the back line, Tielemans is capable putting in a shift and shut shop but can push the team forward into attacking areas when that is the need of the hour.
To add to it is his extraordinary ability to score insane goals from long distances. In this year alone, the 19-year old has found the back of the net five times from outside the box, showing why he is getting so much praise from all over Europe.
At the Lane, Pochettino has used the likes of Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele as the first-choice midfielders while Eric Dier has acted as a backup if needed. Young Harry Winks has not put a foot wrong but Pochettino is convinced that he needs a central midfielder to add some mettle to the squad and there are very few option better than Tielemans at the moment.
Pochettino has the youngest squad in the league, on an average so it is clear that he trusts players on their ability rather than on their age. At 19, Tielemans will not play every game at a top-class club in Europe like Monaco but at the Lane, all he has to do to cement a place in the first team is convince the manager.
Playing alongside the likes of Eric Dier, Dele Alli and Harry Kane, all of whom are still at the start of their career, the young Belgian can take his time to adjust to the challenges of the English league and can turn into a superstar in years to come.
