Tottenham Hotspur have one of the strongest squads in the Premier League at the moment and Pochettino will not be too worried about adding star names to the first team for the next season.
However, he will be looking to add some depth to the squad, the lack of which has hurt them this season, and has been linked with some decent players recently. One such player who is now on the radar for the Spurs is former Liverpool star Suso.
The Spanish attacker spent three years at Liverpool, making just 14 league appearances before he was sent out to AC Milan in 2015. He spent the second half of his first season at Genoa, scoring six goals in 15 appearances for the side and managed to cement a place in the first team at the San Siro this season.
Suso has seven goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season for the Italian side and his tally of nine assists is the joint highest in Serie A this season so far. However, he is stalling on a new contract with the Italian outfit and is wanted by Mauricio Pochettino at the White Hart Lane.
Capable of playing on the wing, or as a number 10 just behind the striker, Suso is a versatile player whose strength is his finishing. He can score long range goals and has an instinctive eye for goal in dangerous areas, that makes him a hard player to mark.
He is an excellent dribbler but he is at his best when he tries to ping long passes for his teammates in counter attacking situations. He is a smart player who reads the game well and his ability during dead ball situations is also an added asset.
Pochettino has missed Argentine star Eric Lamela this season and though he could be back for the next campaign, it is hard to see him cement a place in the first team straight away. Heung-Min Son, Moussa Sissoko and Kevin N’Koudou have all failed to claim the spot on the wing and Pochettino is looking for a star player who can do that next season.
With lots of competition, it is hard to see the Spurs being able to lure a top class name to the club this summer and there are very few options who could be a better fit at the club than Suso at the moment.
His experience in the Premier League at Anfield, along with his form at AC Milan make him a dangerous player in England next season and at 23, he ticks all the boxes in Pochettino’s book of prerequisites for a transfer target.
He will not cost on the high side as well but do you think he is the right man for the Spurs this summer?
