Barcelona are bound to make some transfers in the summer window. It has been all Lionel Messi this season as the Argentine international has the man on the target for the Catalans. None of the acquisitions they had made in the summer have managed to perform at par and Luis Enrique’s side has been struggling to get the necessary results.
Barcelona have been planning to trim down their current squad and a number of players are expected to get the sack. Luis Enrique has already announced that he will step down at the end of this season and a number of names are doing the rounds as his replacement.
Let us take a look at 3 players whom Barcelona should target in the coming transfer window.
Marco Verratti
The French midfielder’s future is still uncertain and Barcelona will be favourites to land him if they solidify their interest. Creativity in the middle of the park has caused problems for the Catalans. Andres Iniesta is regarded as one of the most complete central midfielders of the world but he has been pretty ordinary this season. Ivan Rakitic has been deployed out of position a number of times and the Croatian midfielder haven’t done justice to his name.
Barcelona did sign Andre Gomes from Valencia for £55 m but the midfielder has been lacklustre in terms of form. Verratti would be a much-upgraded version of Andre Gomes as he likes to dictate the play from deep. However, he wouldn’t come cheap and the Spanish giants have to shell a large chunk of money to entice him.
Gerard Deulofeu
Recent reports revealed that Barcelona are favourites to reunite with the player. Sporting director Robert Fernandez is ready to break the bank for Spaniard. A product of the famous La Masia academy, the 23-year-old never really made his name in the Barcelona ranks and after a couple of failed attempts, he was sent on loan to Everton. The Toffees decided to sign him permanently but in this season he has been sent on loan to AC Milan where he has shown the signs of his brilliance. Deulofeu could be an immediate replacement for Arda Turan who has barely been seen on the pitch this season.
Hector Bellerin
Barcelona are badly in search of a right back and Arsenal player Hector Bellerin fits the bill perfectly. Aleix Vidal has been far from impressive and Sergi Roberto, who is actually a midfielder has to slot back in that position. With the current uncertainty surrounding Arsenal, there is a possibility we might see a further reunion at Camp Nou.
