It has been a season of absolute helplessness for Sunderland in the Premier League which has been filled with shambolic outings and abject performances week in and week out.
There has been an apparent dearth of willingness to prove their point as they crumbled like a pack of cards. The Black Cats are currently placed rock bottom of the league table and are as many as 10 points away from the safe zone.
To be honest, Sunderland haven’t really made themselves worthy of adorning the tag of an English top flight side and the perception that they are highly likely to face their doomsday at the end of the season would make perfect sense.
David Moyes has failed to get his tactical nous strike the right chords and no wonder that the team has succumbed so far.
A demotion will definitely put a dent on Sunderland’s stature but then, Newcastle United have shown this season that it is the spirit which needs to stay alive to get uplifted immediately.
One of the things Moyes (in case he stays at the Stadium of Light) needs to do in the summer is making shrewd transfer deals to bolster his squad and one of the players he could possibly target is Celtic’s Saidy Janko.
Janko was acquired from FC Zurich by Moyes when he was at the helm of Manchester United and was highly rated by the Scot. However, Louis Van Gaal’s era dented the 21-year-old’s career and he was eventually sold to Celtic after a brief loan spell with Bolton Wanderers.
Despite having the calibre, he wasn’t handed enough confidence by his subsequent managers as he is still looking for some sort of permanency.
In the summer of 2016, Brendan Rodgers sent him out to Barnsley on a season-long loan where he has been piling up his experience in the Championship.
Nonetheless, it is high time for him to find some consistent game time under his belt and a move to a club which is in a dire need of resources like Sunderland would be an ideal opportunity for Janko to really kick-start his career.
Young and having tremendous potential, the Swiss is someone around whom the Black Cats could possibly build the side post their relegation, which is looking imminent at this stroke of the hour.
Under the tutelage of Moyes, he can go from strength to strength and really launch himself in a full-fledged manner to carve a name for himself amongst the football fraternity.
