Southampton have been a club which has had a keen knack to hand the rising starlets the requisite platform to launch forward and carve their name in the good books of the football fraternity.
In a scenario where widely acknowledged names are lured with truckloads of cash, they beg to differ as they advocate the philosophy of handing the youngsters the requisite chances to prosper.
Despite not having the strongest of financial muscles which has forced them to let their main men leave more often than not, the Saints somehow manage to thrive and face the animosity which the top tier of English football has on offer.
Under the tutelage of Claude Puel, they have gone on to add strength to strength and are placed 9 on the league table with 40 points from 31 outings and are indeed looking stable enough to register a strong finish to the season.
Southampton might already be looking forward to the upcoming season with a European spot seemingly likely to be their yardstick. Their ranks definitely need to be bolstered and adding armoury to their attacking arsenal would be one of the key areas of scrutiny.
Apparently, reports have emerged that Eupen’s starlet, Henry Onyekuru, is on the wish-list of the club for the summer transfer window, with the likes of Liverpool, Celtic, West Ham United and Bournemouth keeping a close eye on his development as well.
Onyekuru has banged 12 goals already this season in the Belgium first division and his versatility of playing on either wing as well as a striker up front has caught a lot of attention.
His dynamism whilst passing is simply top notch and his raw pace enables him to outrun the opponents’ defence in the blink of an eye. He accelerates well, controls the ball like a veteran, times his runs perfectly, shoots meticulously and his technical edge despite being just a 19-year-old is simply exemplary.
With a move to the Premier League, Onyekuru might have to undergo immense pressure to perform as he would be thrown under the microscope week in and week out but at the onset, it does appear that he has the calibre to do so.
An unafraid poacher who loves to rattle the cages, under the guidance of Puel, the Nigerian wonder kid would have the opportunity of brushing himself up and rectifying his flaws and be the face of the game in times to come.
