Manchester City have a huge summer ahead of them after Pep Guardiola is at the end of his first season without a trophy. The former Barcelona manager is set to make wholesale changes to the squad this summer and this might see a number of players fear for their positions in the squad next season.
Guardiola will also have to make sure that he finds the right combination in all parts of the field to play his best XI in every game. While a few newcomers might walk into the first team, two players who might fight for one place in the squad are Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
The South American duo have been impressive in front of goal every time they have been given a chance. The 28-year old Argentine has 18 league goals in 28 games to his name this season. He was earlier linked with an exit this summer but all such rumours have now cooled down.
Jesus picked up a devastating injury after making an impressive start to his career at the club in January. He has three goals and two assists to his name, in just six appearances in all competitions. He has scored or assisted a goal every 53 minutes in his Manchester City career and is finally back from an injury. So who should lead the attacking line for City next season?
With 31 goals in all competitions, Aguero is still one of the top goal scorers in England and stands as the best finisher in the country at the moment. He is a genuine goal scorer who can find the back of the net even when his team are struggling to get on the ball and that is something hard to replace. At 28, he is in the prime of his career and is one of the most experienced players in his position in the Premier League.
Jesus, on the other hand, is at the other of his career, where he is just establishing himself at the Etihad. He is 20 and is just at the start of his career but his achievements with club and country in the past make him a top-class player already. He has led the attack for City in four league games before the injury and scored or assisted four goals in those games.
He has all the attributes of becoming a top-class star and Guardiola seems to trust him to lead the attack for his side next season. Aguero is a safe option as he can act as a target man and lead the attack for his side but Jesus makes Manchester City that much more fluid and might edge Aguero to a place in the first team next season. Guardiola is not afraid to try youngsters in his first team and if Gabriel can continue to impress, he can be a mainstay at the club for years to come.
