For Celtic, it has been a fantastic season on every aspect in the Scottish Premiership as they have been ruthless in carrying out their duties and have thrived in a league of their own. The likes of Rangers and Aberdeen haven’t really managed to go toe-to-toe with the Celts and Brendan Rodgers must be a thoroughly satisfied man owing to what his men have put on their showcases to display week in and week out.
However, there have been many players in Celtic’s ranks who have already been linked to European powerhouses. Frankly speaking, the Scottish giants do not possess the financial muscle to repel the temptations which are going to be contemplated in the summer transfer window. One of the players who have fallen on the radar of a lot of clubs is their sensational left-back, Kieran Tierney.
Tierney has been an exemplary youngster to have erupted this season and has cemented his stature in the starting line-up of Rodgers by leapfrogging veteran defender, Emilio Izaguirre. While the 19-year-old would be valued in gold and might be lured out of the Celtic Park at the end of the season, Izaguirre’s contract expires in the summer and the Honduras international might look for an outlet in the summer as well.
In a situation like this, the former Liverpool boss would have to assess the prospective replacements of some of the notable players for the requisite slot and one of them which the Bhoys could really pounce upon is Ajax’s left-back, Mitchell Dijks. The Dutchman is a modern day full-back with exceptional calibre, but has really fallen out of favour at the Amsterdam Arena and was thus shipped out from the club on loan in the January transfer window. His future at Ajax looks bleak and this is where the Glasgow giants should shrewdly enter into the equation.
Currently on loan with Norwich City, Dijks has been pretty impressive for the Canaries. In 9 appearances in the second tier of English football, the 24-year-old has made 2.7 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 2.8 clearances and 0.4 blocks per game on an average. He maintains a fine blend between his attacking and defensive endeavours and has the technical edge as well. Besides, he has also scored a goal, has shown time and again this season that he is worthy enough to play for a top quality side on a regular basis and could fit the bill at Celtic, should a deal materialise.
