Manchester United are the latest club linked with a move for Real Madrid want away Álvaro Morata this summer. The Spanish attacker is among the most exciting players in world football at the moment but the amount of quality in the squad at the Bernabeu has seen him struggle to cement a place in the first team under Zinedine Zidane. This has seen him linked with an exit, with a host of European clubs looking to snatch him away.
But according to reports today, Jose Mourinho has now directly approached the player over a move to Old Trafford. According to reports from Cadena Ser, Mourinho, who gave Morata his debut at Real Madrid back in 2010, is desperate to add him to his squad and has contracted him over details of a deal to lure him to Old Trafford. So is Morata a problem solver for the Red Devils this summer?
Though the squad at Manchester United has some star players in it, Mourinho has not been able to get the best out of them and is ready for an overhaul this summer. He is looking to improve on a number of positions and the striker’s position is one that is of utmost importance.
Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the top scorer for United this season, is out of a contract at the end of the season and is out of football until the turn of the year. Skipper Wayne Rooney is expected to quit the club this summer, leaving Mourinho short of attacking options next season.
The 24-year old has been in productive form for the Spanish side this season, scoring 17 goals and picking up four assists in all competitions. But he has started just 11 La Liga games this season and will be frustrated with the lack of playing time in the Spanish capital.
Capable of playing as a lone striker, as a second striker or also on the wing, Morata is right up there with the most exciting stars in Europe at the moment. An excellent dribbler with exceptionally gifted technique, Morata is a genuine goal scorer who has a superb eye for goal. He can score stunners from long range and is equally adept at playing passes around the defence to set his teammates up on goal.
He is strong and ready to put his body on the line while is also a huge threat in counter attacks and this will make Mourinho lick his lips for the next season. Even if he spends big on one of the three top attacking transfer targets, Morata could still find a place in the team at Old Trafford.
The Real Madrid man may not be able to lead the attack for Manchester United all by himself but playing around players of the calibre of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, he will surely assume an important role at the club and is expected to help United back to their previous best.
