Real Madrid’s woes at the back seem to have one answer currently, David De Gea. The Spanish goalkeeper has been pursued for quite a long time by Real Madrid, with the cancellation of a deal which looked almost sure, but for a technical glitch that stopped it from happening.
This time, the Galacticos are looking once again to acquire the services of the goalkeeper, and look more desperate than ever. Reportedly, the 11 time European Champions are looking set to bid the highest amount by any club to secure a goalkeeper, £60 million to be precise.
Currently, Real Madrid is having a number of problems defensively, with their current number 1, Keylor Navas being inadequate to keep the opponent goal scorers at bay. The Galacticos are sure of the fact that the current Manchester United goalkeeper has the key to their happiness in terms of saving goals.
The news has reportedly angered the current Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho, who has come out all guns blazing in opposing the move of the Spaniard to Santiago Bernabeu. He has said very clearly in a public message that De Gea should concentrate on his career at Old Trafford rather than think of going to Real Madrid.
The Spanish goalkeeper was all set to leave last summer for a transfer fee of £30 million to Real Madrid, but the deal was halted due to a technical problem on the deadline day of closure of the Transfer window.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are keeping their options open and are also keeping current Chelsea shot-stopper, Thibaut Courtois as a backup. The Belgian is hailed as one of the best goalkeepers in the world under the current scenario. He joined Chelsea from Real Madrid’s arch rivals Atletico Madrid in 2014, ending his loan spell with the Spanish club starting in 2011.
Interestingly, Thibaut Courtois was brought in to Atletico Madrid on loan as a replacement for David De Gea who moved to Manchester United in 2011. Courtois is held in the highest regard as one of the best young goalkeepers having a bright future prospect ahead of him.
David De Gea is hailed by the head coach of his national side Spain Julen Lopetegui as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. His ball handling abilities paired with his fearless attitude in any situation, and the fact that he is a very cool customer standing under the crossbar make him an immediate favourite. No doubt that one of the world’s best clubs Real Madrid are wanting him to be a part of their team for the next season and many more to come.
