A high-profile Scottish Cup semifinal between two century old rivals was the biggest occasion at Scotland on Sunday afternoon when Celtic and Rangers locked horns at Hampden Park.
The Old Firm derby ended all square last time in Scottish Premiership, however, the game this afternoon needed a result as the winner will face Aberdeen in the cup final on 27th May. Celtic have already secured a double this season ( Scottish League Cup and Premiership) and a win against the arch rivals would have taken them closer to a treble winning campaign.
The Gers, on the other hand, were eyeing a revenge as they were knocked out from the League Cup semis last year by the Hoops who eventually went on to win the title.
However, they failed big time once more as Pedro Caixinha’s men suffered a 2-0 defeat against Celtic and Brendan Rodgers steps closer to a treble in his first season in charge.
Below are the Rangers FC players rated from their outing against Celtic FC.
Wes Foderingham: 6
Had a busy afternoon as he was tested repeatedly by the Hoops. Made a few decent stops and could have done little to deny either of Celtic’s goals.
James Tavernier: 6
Tried his best with his overlapping runs and whipped in a number of decent crosses for Kenny Miller and Martyn Waghorn. Was at fault for Celtic’s second goal as he brought down Leigh Griffiths inside the box and Scott Sinclair scored from the resulting spot-kick.
Danny Wilson: 5.5
Had a nervy first half as Celtic were posing threats from set-pieces. Pulled off a few decent blocks and tackles, however, it was not enough to avoid a defeat.
David Bates: 5
The youngster enjoyed a solid defensive display during the past few weeks and earned a start in the greatest occasion of Scottish football. Bates was aerially strong, but looked vulnerable from set-pieces and found it hard against the likes of Sinclair, Griffiths and Roberts.
Myles Beerman: 5
The 18-year old Maltese professional earned a start in the Old Firm derby after impressing his boss in recent weeks. But the rookie failed to make a similar impact this afternoon as he was kept on his toes by Mikael Lustig and Patrick Roberts. Did not contribute much in attack; was forced to concentrate on his defensive duties.
Emerson Hyndman: 5
The Bournemouth loanee tried his best to help his attackers from the middle of the park. But his passes lacked end product; was taken off in second half to be replaced by Josh Windass.
Jason Holt: 5
Holt did well to screen his defence against an immense Celtic attack but failed to control the game from the midfield and set it up for the attackers.
Andy Halliday: 3
Struggled throughout the first half and was replaced by Barrie McKay at half-time.
Martyn Waghorn: 5
The forward lacked finishing throughout this afternoon and failed to find the back of the net.
Kenny Miller: 6
The 37-year old veteran came close to scoring but was denied by Celtic custodian Gordon on a couple of occasions.
Joe Garner: 4
Struggled to get into the game as the Gers midfield failed to feed the attacker. Was replaced by Joe Dodoo at half-time.
Substitutes:
Joe Dodoo: 6.5
Dodoo had a positive impact from the bench as he impressed with his runs, skills and crosses. Was denied by Gordon in the closing moments.
Barrie McKay: 6
McKay also had a positive impact from the bench as he dominated the left flank with his pace and dribbling.
Josh Windass: 5.5
Helped his side to hold possession in midfield. Could have offered more in attack.
