The journey from the brink of nothingness to back into the elite cultivated overwhelmingly jovial scenes at the American Express Community Stadium a week ago after Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed their promotion to the Premier League via automatic qualification spots. Currently placed at the top of the Championship table with 92 points from 44 league outings, the Seagulls have carved a fairytale-like campaign and thoroughly deserved to get the uplift.
Chris Hughton has been the hardworking architect and it has to be underlined that his men have delivered really well. However, the animosity which the English top tier has on offer every week is on another level entirely and after creating a healthy pedestal for them, it would be important for Brighton & Hove Albion to keep the momentum up and running next season as well. Hughton needs to start assessing his prospective recruitments from now. One of the players reported to be on his radar is Arsenal’s out-of-favour attacker, Joel Campbell.
Campbell was shipped to Portuguese outfit, Sporting CP in the summer of 2016 and his performance ever since his move to Estadio Jose Alvalade has been a hot-and-cold one. He has bagged 3 goals and registered 3 assists so far with the Lions but hasn’t been able to cement his spot in the starting line-up. Moreover, the plethora of stars in the offensive setup of the Gunners implies that he is surplus to the requirements of the club and thus, the 24-year-old might be struck off the books at the end of the season. This is where the Seagulls come into the scenario.
Campbell, despite being a promising youngster, was perennially overlooked by Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and as a result of the same, he could never really flourish. Loans spells across the continent barely helped the Costa Rica international in generating a healthy status for himself and it is high time for him to seek for regularity in the top flight, maybe in the English Premier League. A player who could ply his trade as a striker, an attacking midfielder as well as a winger, he would be a shrewd coup for a growing club like Brighton.
Campbell is fast, has exemplary work-ethic, possesses the requisite technical edge and when on song, he could be a perfect demolisher of the opponents. Moreover, he contributes defensively as well and has adequate experience which makes him a compelling commodity to have in any side (not as demanding as the Gunners). The former Saprissa man should not ponder and give his consent to Hughton, should he come calling for his signature, for he can thrive and excel as per his potential with this move which is being anticipated.
