Newcastle United are looking to revive their interest in Arsenal’s versatile defender Carl Jenkinson, whose current contract with the Gunners in on the verge of expiry. The 25-year old England international hasn’t featured much on the pitch throughout the season and with Arsenal looking to offload him, it seems better for Jenkinson to look for a new club this summer.
Newcastle United has been looking to make the Arsenal youngster a part of their team for the last few seasons, but the Gunners have been reluctant to let go of the defender. Now, with an opportunity to get back into the Premier League, the Magpies are looking to make themselves strong enough in all departments. A number of players have been linked with Newcastle for the new season, and Carl Jenkinson is one of those who is on the top of the priority list.
Reportedly, Newcastle might look to offload a number of players going into the next season including Vumon Anita and Gamez. While the midfielder will be out of contract in the next season, the Spanish right back might make way for the arrival of Jenkinson at St. James’ Park. Newly promoted side Brighton Hobe and Albion FC are claimed to have an eye for the 25-year-old Arsenal defender as well, as they make arrangements to be a part of top plight England football.
Carl Jenkinson can become a treasured possession for any club he goes to. The England International, who has also represented Finland at the Junior level, can play at various positions. Hailed as a promising right back, the 25-year-old has the ability to play at the heart of defence. His exceptional ability to hold onto the ball for a significant amount of time as well as sending crosses in from the right flank in front the opposition goal makes him a versatile player.
In January last year, Jenkinson was almost ready to leave the Emirates stadium, with Crystal Palace almost getting his signature on their contract paper. However, due to some problem, the transfer fell through and the defender had to stay back with the Gunners.
This time though, things are looking bright for the prospective move of the English player. Newcastle United are already looking to rope in the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea City and Ryan Shawcross from Stoke City.
The Arsenal defender had to battle a long injury layoff before making a comeback into the senior side last season. However, he could make only five appearances for his side during the entire season.
