Newcastle United redeemed their utmost potential this season under the tutelage of Rafael Benitez as they got themselves to the promised land of the Premier League. In a season when most of the things clicked in their favour, the Geordies deserved an immediate return to the big cash league. In fact, after a 0-2 win over Cardiff City at the Cardiff City Stadium, they are generating pressure on Brighton & Hove Albion to clinch the Championship silverware which could be the cherry on top of the cake for them as the season enters into its final stages.
However, having created the requisite pedestal for them this season to maraud forward, Newcastle United would have to continue the same when they ply their trade in the Premier League next season to refrain from another collapse. Benitez has come out of the baptism of fire he ventured into this season with flying colours and all the efforts put in by him and his personnel would mean nothing if they fail to construct themselves as a side capable enough to stay in the top flight. The former Real Madrid boss needs to ensure that the spark that has been garnered in the side stays intact.
The summer transfer window would enable the Magpies to get their targets to solidify their squad and one of the players to have linked with a move t St. James’ Park recently is Moussa Sissoko. Having moved to the White Hart Lane from the ranks of the Toons in the summer of 2016, Sissoko’s stay at the North London based club hasn’t dished out in a proper manner as the Frenchman has found opportunities pretty hard to come by under the guardianship of Mauricio Pochettino. His own sporadic form coupled with the eye-catchy performances from his fellow midfielders at Spurs and as a result, he has fallen behind in the pecking order for the Lilywhites.
Newcastle United have time and again missed someone in the middle of the park who could blast forward with the ball with pace and carve openings for the side, something Sissoko is renowned for. The Frenchman is an exemplary toiler who dictates the tempo of the game and is a shrewd passer of the ball. His spell with Spurs might not have yielded substantial dividends but make no mistake, the 27-year-old dynamo was a hit at St. James’ Park after moving from Toulouse and considering that Newcastle United are in an apparent need of having someone who could impose grit and resilience in the midfield, Sissoko could really fit the bill.
