Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have been continuously linked with some of the best players in Europe and one player who is extensively linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge this summer is Real Madrid want-away star, James Rodriguez. The Colombian international is among the best players in his position in world football and is wanted by some of the biggest clubs in Europe but it is understood that Conte is ready to splash the cash on him this summer. So is this a wise move for both parties?
Having grabbed the spotlight after a tremendous World Cup in Brazil, Rodriguez has not been able to cement his place in the first team at Real Madrid, even under the current manager Zinedine Zidane. However, he has still managed to score five goals and pick up 12 assists in his 24 appearances in all competitions this season and is right up there with the best in the league. He is desperate for more first-team football and is ready to quit the Bernabeu at the end of the season.
Germany’s Bayern Munich and England’s Liverpool are both interested in his signature but Chelsea could be a far more lucrative option for Rodriguez this summer. With Eden Hazard linked with an exit, Conte could be left with just Willian and Pedro as a part of his attacking option in the squad next season. And Rodriguez is probably an upgrade on either. Known for his exceptional passing and even better dribbling abilities, Rodriguez is a genuine attacker who can play in any of the three positions behind the striker and Conte will love to have someone like him in the squad next season.
A cool and composed finisher, with a peculiar eye for goal, the 25-year old is adept at setting his teammates in dangerous situations and is a player who will walk into the first team at Stamford Bridge. If Hazard stays, a front three of James Rodriguez, Diego Costa, and Eden Hazard is right up there with the best and if the Belgian leaves, Rodriguez will become an even more important part of the squad at the Bridge.
He has no experience in the Premier League but has all the skills and tricks in the locker that can make him effective in the Premier League. He may not be strong in the air but is not afraid to put himself about, which will also attract Conte and a chance to play in the Champions League consistently will appeal to the Colombian.
Bayern Munich might not be able to provide any more game time than Real Madrid next season while Liverpool are just the outsiders. Rodriguez will surely have his options this summer but in more ways than one, a move to the Stamford Bridge looks the best possible option for all parties involved. Do you think James Rodriguez will move to Chelsea this summer?
