Middlesbrough Vs Arsenal Key Battles: An Attack Vs Defence Scenario?

Middlesbrough could rekindle their hopes of survival when they meet Arsenal in the next match. Relegation is looking imminent for the Teessiders as they remain six points adrift of the safety zone.

Firing Aitor Karanka seems to have backfired as Boro could only collect two points from four matches since his departure. However, a win against the Gunners could give them an urge to fight for the remaining games as the season is tightening up.

Arsenal’s horrible performance in the last few matches have marked a doubt over their top four hopes. The loss against Crystal Palace was their third defeat in the Premier League in a span of five games.

Wenger would be looking forward towards making a statement when they face Boro who have a great defensive work rate.

Gabriel vs Adama Traore

With Laurent Koscielny struggling to get fit, Wenger is expected to hand Gabriel Paulista a slot in the starting lineup. Keeping in mind of the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, Wenger would definitely want a fully fit Koscielny and Gabriel might make a start.

He is undoubtedly one of the most underrated defenders in the Premier League and had also played as a right back when Hector Bellerin was injured. Gabriel has a good understanding with Shkodran Mustafi and against a side like Boro who don’t attack much, a clean sheet would be perfect.

Boro have a very talented player in Adama Traore. The winger is very versatile and would be adamant to put things under control. He has terrific dribbling skills and is blessed with excellent ball control. But the end product often turns out to be a hoax as his final pass has been pretty awful.

Alexis Sanchez vs Antonio Barragan

Sanchez has been the player of the season so far from Arsenal. Despite having an erratic season, Sanchez has continued to perform for the Gunners. The Chilean has so far been the most hardworking player on the pitch and rumours are doing the rounds that Arsenal have tabled an improved offer to him to pledge his future to the club.

Barragan needs to be very cautious to track Sanchez’s movement. He has to set his mindset as Sanchez uses his body a lot to thrive in the game.

Ben Gibson vs Mesut Ozil

Ozil has been the architect of Arsenal’s attack although he has not implemented his strategy this time. The German midfielder often dissects the opponent defence with his killer passes but this season hasn’t been a fruitful one for him. But he has the ability and Arsenal needs him to deliver against a side like Boro.

Ben Gibson has been the backbone of Boro’s defence this season. The 24-year-old got a Three Lions call-up for his stupendous performance in the Boro backline and he will once again be in the charge to lead the team.
