Zinedine Zidane, the current Real Madrid manager is set to be one of the busiest people in the summer transfer window as he is looking to improve certain areas of the squad ahead of the next season. He is ready to let some star players leave this summer to make some room, but one position that requires immediate assistance is the goal keeper’s position.
Keylor Navas, the first choice shot-stopper for Real Madrid this season, has been error prone and has not been able to give Zidane a comfort zone at eh back. So, he is convinced that Navas should be replaced and has been looking at some of the biggest names in Europe. While Gianluigi Donnarumma and Thibaut Courtois have been linked with a move to the Bernabeu recently, one player who might be on his way to the club is Manchester United man David de Gea.
The player of the season for the last two campaigns for the Red Devils, De Gea is probably one of the best shot-stoppers in Europe at the moment. He has helped Manchester United to a number of points this season as well and has been in terrific form in front of goal. Though he had a couple of shaky moments in the last couple of months, he is a consistent player in his position and a superb option for Real Madrid. And reports today suggest that De Gea has told Jose Mourinho that he wants a move to La Liga this summer.
Kiko Casilla is currently the backup for Keylor Navas at the Bernabeu but Zidane is not happy with either and wants De Gea to be the first choice in the league while Navas might act as his deputy in cup competitions. Born and brought up is Spain, De Gea has previously played for Atletico Madrid in the La Liga and knows everything about the league. He was born in the Spanish capital and Real are convinced that he belongs there. So, there is not much stopping De Gea from moving back to his hometown.
Jose Mourinho will surely do everything he can to keep De Gea at the club but unlike a couple of years ago when Real left it till the deadline day and missed out on him, the Spanish side are sure to make an early attempt to sign him and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can hold out. The Spaniard is contracted with the Red Devils till 2019 with an option to extend for a further year and will not be available on the cheap but Manchester United will not be ready to lose him at any price. Mainly because there are very few options to replace him in the transfer market this summer.
Having played at the Vicente Calderon, De Gea may not be received well in his home country but playing for the Champions of Europe might be a tough thing to pass off, especially if United fail to qualify for the Champions League. De Gea belongs to Spain and at 26, it might be the right time for him to start his era at the Bernabeu, and can finally replace one Iker Casillas at the club for years to come. Do you think Real should sign De Gea this summer?
