Manchester City have had a rough patch going on and back to back square offs against London clubs looked like a heavy challenge. City visited Chelsea at the Bridge just days after having played at the Emirates and a victory would have been morale-boosting and crucial in terms of the grip on top four. However, it wasn’t to be as Eden Hazard’s two goals proved to be too much for City to comeback from even though they showed shades of well-worked attacking football. Aguero’s goal served as a consolation. Here’s how the Sky Blues have been rated after another frustrating evening in London:-
GK : Willy Caballero – 6/10
Couldn’t react quickly after Hazard’s slightly deflected goal beat him. He made a good save to stop Hazard’s penalty but was unlucky to see the ball end up in the net after the rebound. Clean in playing the ball from the back though.
RB : Jesus Navas – 5/10
Right back role against Hazard and it wasn’t a comfortable night. He could hardly add anything to the attack and he left Hazard wandering off several times.
CB : John Stones – 5.5/10
Comfortable with the ball and things didn’t come his way for the majority of his game. Missed a sitter from point blank rage and had he scored it, City would have equalised to take a deserved point away from the Bridge.
CB : Vincent Kompany – 6/10
The only positive is that he played a good amount of time having returned from injury. He looked rusty but if he maintains his fitness it will be a boost for his club.
LB : Gael Clichy – 5.5/10
Couldn’t make most of the ball he got on the left. Disappointing!
CM : Fabian Delph – 6.5/10
He got a shock start, did decent enough and kept the ball ticking. It will be exciting to see as to how he does vs clubs of lower magnitude.
CM : Fernandinho – 5.5/10
Gave away a decisive penalty and it just didn’t look like his day today. He failed to control the midfield and got booked.
CAM : David Silva – 7.5/10
Time and again, he was the focal point of City’s attack and his ball control was just amazing to watch. He carved open Chelsea through the centre but City just couldn’t make much from his service.
RW : Kevin De Bruyne – 6.5/10
Played a few decent balls and threatened Chelsea but hardly anything to impress on his return to the Bridge.
FW : Sergio Aguero – 7/10
Had a really tough day up against Luiz but he did a tidy job. Got into a good position to equalise. City really need him heading into the final quarter of the league.
LW : Leroy Sane – 3/10
Outclassed, underwhelming, ineffective up against Azpilicueta. He’s a bright player but today was not for him.
