It has been yet another season of mediocrity for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship as they are loitering aimlessly in the lower half of the league table. Currently placed 15th, the Wolves have suffered owing to their sporadic run of form and their latest 3-1 defeat at the hands of Derby County on Saturday was a testament of their cluelessness. A handful changes at the club is the call of the hour and there is no second thought about the same.
One of the main issues for Paul Lambert’s side has been the lack of goals from his attackers as the midfielders and defenders have come to the rescue more often than not. The Molineux is echoing for a flamboyant poacher up front who could bang goals left right and centre and should be consistently consistent at the same time. Lambert is seemingly likely to dip into the summer transfer window and come out with a reliable striker and one of the Championship players he could possibly target is Blackburn Rovers’ hitman Danny Graham.
Signed by the Blue and Whites initially on loan from Sunderland, Graham was lured to the Ewood Park permanently last summer after he impressed during his loan spell. Tony Mowbray’s outfit might have been living on the edge by flirting dangerously with the relegation zone, but on Saturday, they took a marauding step towards the safety point as they secured a 1-0 win over Aston Villa. Graham was the one to score the goal and eventually save the blushes of the Rovers’ faithful momentarily, just like the way he has discharged his duties more often than not this campaign.
In 34 appearances in the second tier of English football, the 31-year-old striker has collected 12 goals and registered 4 assists so far and has earned a very decent recognition amongst the football fraternity. A player whose work-rate is simply exemplary, to say the least, Graham is quite clinical up front, can play in a shrewd manner with his back facing the goal, has the technical sharpness and has cultivated plenty of experience of English football so far in his career. Considering his age, he is arguably in his peak period and can contribute massively for the Wolves.
The Englishman pounces upon the loose balls in a meticulous manner, has the requisite pace and is an aerial threat for the opponents. Intriguingly, Graham and Lambert had worked together when Lambert was at the helm of Blackburn Rovers and these two have huge mutual respect for each other. Irrespective of what happens at the end of the season for the Riversiders, Graham should be looking for a better endeavour and with a move to the Molineux, he would fit perfectly in Wolverhampton’s tactical nous up front and would enable them to push for a promotion next season.
