After a brilliant and unexpected win against Stoke City last game at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea City are definitely retaining their flickering hopes by all means as the season enters the last month. Swansea City are extremely close to escaping the drop zone trailing Hull City by just two points.
However, the opponents Paul Clement will be facing in the remaining four fixtures are really tricky. They face Everton and Manchester United in the last four and Hull would be hoping the results to go routinely. However, the South Wales club has had a brilliant turnaround since the arrival of the new boss at the turn of the year and if they can win at Anfield, they would believe they will go all the way.
Their next stop is Old Trafford where they face an injury-plagued Manchester United, who have really struggled with more than half of their players sidelined with injuries or suspension. And interestingly, Swansea doesn’t hold a grim record against them. They have won two of their last four visits to Old Trafford and Clement would surely aim for a major upset.
Strongest Swansea City Line-up vs Manchester United
Defence
The position under the bar will be taken by former Arsenal goalie Lukasz Fabianski. The 32-year-old Polish international has conceded a whopping 68 goals in 34 league appearances so far, and he couldn’t be blamed much given Swansea’s shaky back line. However, Old Trafford has been the source of strength to numerous goalies, which include the likes of Tom Heaton of Burnley and Artur Boruc of Bournemouth.
The backline is unlikely to change going into this game after the Swans managed a convincing game over Stoke last game. The defensive flanks will be taken by Stephen Kingsley and Kyle Naughton. Defending the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic is never easy and they did a fantastic job.
Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez will take their position at the heart of the defence.
Midfield
Three-man midfield has been quite successful at times for the Swansea side this season, and Clement should stick with it against an attacking side. Skipper Leon Britton should take the position in deep midfield as he anchors the team with Leroy Fer and Tom Carroll in the attacking midfield.
And Swansea City have decent depth in the midfield with Sung-Yong Ki on the bench, who could provide enough cushion for Swansea’s defence if they managed to lead by anyway.
Attack
Swansea have one of the most exciting trios in the attack with Gylfi Sigurdsson, Fernando Llorente and Jordan Ayew. Sigurdsson has scored twice and assisted three times in his previous five games against United, and could be a danger man for United.
