Over the last couple of seasons, Liverpool have been one of the most error-prone defences in the Premier League and it is high time for Klopp to chance this tag this summer.
The Reds have the worst defensive records in the top-6 teams in the points table at the moment this season and the manager has been looking at some star players to solve this problem.
But one player that every Liverpool fan is convinced, that can make Liverpool better at the back is Southampton star Virgil van Dijk.
It has become an annual tradition for Liverpool to dive into the lot at the St Marys to cherry pick their stars and last season it was Sadio Mane.
The Senegalese international has been the best player for Liverpool this season and the Dutch defender seems to be next in line. However, unlike every season, Liverpool will have to fight for his signature at the end of the season.
Van Dijk, 25, joined the St Marys at the start of the previous season from Celtic and is already established as one of the best defenders in England. Strong in the air and composed with the ball at his feet, Van Dijk is a proper central defender who hates for opposition players to dominate the game.
The likes of Diego Costa, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku have all struggled against the Dutch star and it is just a matter of time before he grows into the best in the league.
He is not wasteful in possession, and his return of four goals in all competitions makes him a dangerous man in set-pieces as well. He has not played since late January, having picked up an injury, but that has not stopped clubs from scouting him.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are also interested in his signature but Liverpool and their connections at the St Marys can help them land the star at around £40m.
It is a steep price for a defender but Van Dijk genuinely has what it takes to take the Reds closer to the Premier League title and Klopp should splash the cash on him this summer.
Joel Matip seems to have cemented a place in the first team at the club and though Dejan Lovren has been impressive, he is not solid enough to help Liverpool lift the title and could be replaced by Van Dijk this summer in the first team.
Mamadou Sakho is expected to be sold just over £20m, while Ragnar Klavan will act as the backup for Lovren, making the Liverpool defence stronger. £40m+ on Van Dijk will mean that he will be the record signing for Liverpool, but there will not be one Anfield faithful who will be ready to debate on whether they should spend that much amount on Van Dijk.
Liverpool are currently the top goal scorers in the Premier League and it is no secret that their struggling defence has cost them immensely this season.
So a defender will be a priority signing for Liverpool and there are very few players more suited to the requirements at Anfield than the Dutch star from Southampton. Do you think Liverpool will be able to lure Van Dijk to Anfield this summer?
