Liverpool are reportedly extremely close to signing Real Madrid midfield ace Isco coming summer, as the Reds have apparent held talks about a move to the Anfield for the 25-year-old at the end of this season. The Spanish midfielder has been quite impressive for the Whites this season but the huge competition at the club didn’t allow manager Zinedine Zidane to make him a first team player.
And the player is expected to leave Bernabeu after this season in search for first team chances. Liverpool and Manchester City have reportedly made genuine efforts to land him this summer and the Reds could be a likely destination for the midfielder. Liverpool have had a mixed season this term, which saw them unstoppable at times in front of goal and also going through a non-productive patch.
While Jurgen Klopp got his first eleven right on target, the German didn’t have a solid bench to back up the side when the crisis arose. And it has cost them the title this season. After starting the season brilliantly, Liverpool went through a few months long dry patch, when they were without Phillipe Coutinho and later Sadio Mane. The momentum was lost with only Roberto Firmino spearheading the attack.
Liverpool were recovering fast when they received a huge blow in the injury of Jordan Henderson. The time that Emre Can took to settle in that role more than pushed away their chances of winning. While Liverpool have still managed to score 70 goals this season, more than any in the league, Klopp needs to make sure he has enough players in his squad next season, who could take each other’s position as and when needed, and the transition should be seamless.
And Isco is one of the most influential multi-purpose players across the midfield. Naturally a central midfielder, Isco can play on the offensive as well as defensive quite easily; and his speed on and off the ball also makes him an excellent wing player.
He has scored nine goals so far in La Liga this season in 26 outings. And with the player out of contract at Bernabeu by the end of next season, Real are yet to make a decision on him. Reports from Marca have been mixed. While they report that Real have already offered him a contract that keeps him with the Spanish giants till 2022 and fetches him £96,000-a-week, the lack of first team action might yet play a significant role in his future.
Liverpool are in the top four at the moment and might just miss out on it if they continue to falter in their remaining games. Which will make it very difficult to lure Isco given that he comes from a side who are European champions.
