According to reports, Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has asked the club to provide him with £200 million war chest to spend in the summer transfer window. And while it is not sure that would help United turn their form around next season, the club’s agreeing to it is a huge possibility.
Among many others who are on Mourinho’s transfer list, here are 3 players United could target with the humungous funds.
Antoine Griezmann- The Frenchman has been on United’s radar since eternity now. There have been infinite situations that the Atletico Madrid man has come closer to joining the Premier League club in the past two transfer windows and things fell out in the last moment.
However, now with two of their most established forwards, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, ready for departure at the of the season, Mourinho is unlikely to take it in a complacent manner. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are chasing him and a bidding war at the end of the season is quite expected. And the mammoth transfer chest makes life easy for United in this battle.
Griezmann has been prolific in the La Liga since the past few seasons and has a led the attack for the Rojo Blancos on the European front. Hence, if United fail to qualify for the Champions League at the end of the season, their chances of landing him automatically gets slashed to half.
Andrea Belotti- Another hugely popular figure in the upcoming summer transfer market, the Italian international has been one of the most promising youngsters in the Serie A this season.
Arsenal were also said to have tabled a bid of £43.5 million last month only to be rejected by Torino. Only some astronomical amount is expected to lure him away from Turin. The Italian club are not willing to let go of him for obvious reasons and have labelled their best player with a £85m release clause.
Torino won’t be able to stop him once the release clause is met and the club is relying primarily on the player’s love for the club.
Marco Verratti- Yet another world class player to aim at, Marco Verratti is easily the best central midfielder in European football at the moment. And United’s desperate search for the perfect partner for Paul Pogba inevitably makes them cross paths.
Verratti has won a staggering total of 13 trophies in four-and-a-half seasons with Paris-Saint Germain, which includes four Ligue 1 titles. And with the UEFA Champions League trophy continuously evading him for the past few seasons, he is obviously desperate for it.
And with clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid hot on his heels, United will have complications in getting him unless they shell out huge wages; something that PSG has made extremely difficult.
