Luke Shaw’s romance with Manchester United might be over and he could be on his way out from the England outfit. According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur could be the next destination for the teenage England international. Despite repeated cautions by Jose Mourinho, Shaw hasn’t really matched his effort in the last few weeks and as a result, Mourinho has repeatedly left him out of matchday squads and has criticised him at the drop of a hat.
Luke Shaw arrived at the Old Trafford from Southampton for a fee in the region of £31m in 2014. Regarded as one of the best left-backs of the current lot, the 21-year-old has failed to impress current United manager Jose Mourinho who has been rotating Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young in that position.
In a recent interview, Mourinho tore apart Shaw for his attitude and commitment. United are set to offload a set of players in the summer to reshuffle their squad and Shaw could get the axe. United have been linked with a number of left backs including Celtic’s Kieran Tierney. Mourinho has asked the club authorities to work out his transfer and the Red Devils are ready to offer £10m to bring the player to England.
Let us take a look at 3 clubs who should be making a move for Shaw, in case he moves out.
Tottenham Hotspur
Shaw came into limelight when he was at Southampton under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino. The 21-year-old has been refuted publicly by Jose Mourinho and could find solace in his previous manager. Danny Rose has been linked with a string of clubs with the likes of both the Manchester clubs and is destined to leave. Shaw could be his replacement and Spurs might not need to splurge too much cash as United would want to recoup half the amount they paid.
Arsenal
Left back has been the problematic area for Arsenal. Currently, the Gunners have only two recognised left backs in their ranks. Arsene Wenger’s future is currently uncertain and if he does remain he would definitely want to add a sufficient cover in that position. Nacho Monreal is defensively very solid but sometimes he has been caught out by the opponents for his lack of pace while Kieran Gibbs is no more the player what he is used to be.
Newcastle United
The Magpies are on their way to regaining the status of a Premier League club. Shaw has been unable to rise to his peak form and Rafa Benitez could use this opportunity to lure away the player to St James’ Park. Newcastle will heavily invest in the summer to undergo a squad overhaul and Shaw might get a chance to prove his credentials.
