Jose Mourinho has big plans for his Manchester United squad this summer as he is planning to add some star players to help him compete with the best next season. Two players who are constantly linked with a move to the club is Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann and Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata.
United are set to lose the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata at the end of the season and will need more than just one addition to make their attack exciting next season. So will the signing of Griezmann and Morata be enough for United? Here is how Mourinho might line up his United squad with the La Liga duo in his team:
Mourinho is not really a believer in the 3-4-3 system that seems to be in trend at the moment in the Premier League. He has stuck with a 4-3-3 to try and use French sensation Paul Pogba on the right side of a three-man midfield. But in the next campaign, Mourinho is planning to bring in a midfielder who can play alongside Pogba effective in a two-man midfield, that will see United play three attackers in behind their main striker.
There are very few options in the transfer market that are better than Griezmann to lead the attack for Manchester United. Capable of playing as a target man, Griezmann is an exciting striker with a poacher’s instinct. He has a peculiar eye for goal and makes things happen out of the blue, something that Zlatan has done in his first season at the Manchester United. The French star will provide more mobility than the Swede in attack and should directly make them more productive than they have been this season.
Mourinho has a number of options for the wing with the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, all capable of playing on the flanks. But the Armenian winger remains the only options in a number 10 role and this is where Morata should fit in.
The versatile Spanish attacker should play on the shoulder of Griezmann and star in a number 10 role. He is more than capable of leading the attacking line all by himself and this will help the Red Devils add an extra edge to their attack next season.
Mkhitaryan and Martial are expected to be first choice wingers next season while Morata and Griezmann should play in a free-flowing role in the middle of the attack, taking turns to fall deep and lead the line, making the United attack all the more fluid. With Pogba in behind this exciting attack, Manchester United could turn into one of the most productive attacks in Europe.
