Jurgen Klopp has worked wonders with the squad at Anfield this season and is on the brink of Champions League qualification this season. This has seen him linked with some superstars recently and one player who is now back on the radar at Anfield is Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic.
Klopp will want to use his connections to land the winger this summer but the German outfit are not ready to let him go on the cheap. So Liverpool might have to splash the cash for his signature but is Pulisic the man Liverpool need next season?
Also linked with a move to the Allianz Arena, the USA international is arguably one of the most exciting youngsters on display in world football at the moment. Dortmund is his first club in Europe and he has five goals and ten assists in all competitions this season in a yellow shirt.
He is only growing in stature by the game and is a huge asset for Dortmund but Klopp is reportedly convinced that he is the right man to take Liverpool forward in years to come. But what will he add to the club next season?
Having already made a name for himself at a tender age of 18, it is incredible to even think that he is already demanding a first team spot at a club fighting for the Champions League. This would mean that he will only shift clubs in search of regular football.
Though Klopp’s time at the Iduna Park might have its say, Pulisic can only be lured if he is the first choice at the club next season and it will be interesting to see if Klopp changes his squad and system accordingly.
The Reds have played a 4-3-3 system consistently this season with Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane on either wing. Pulisic is an exciting winger who has bundles of energy and pace to burn, giving Liverpool width in attack, something that they have missed this season. Mane remains the only senior winger in the squad, making Pulisic a genuine option in the first team.
However, neither Mane nor Coutinho can be dropped from the fist team next season, which will mean that Klopp will have to use a 4-2-3-1 system to accommodate two wingers and a number 10 in Coutinho.
Liverpool might stick with Roberto Firmino or spend on a striker but it is important for them to add width to the squad. Pulisic can run in behind the defence and use his pace to rattle the opposition and this is something that can help Liverpool overcome the clubs who are ready to sit back and defend.
So a change in the formation may not be as bad for the Reds and in such a case, Pulisic will be the first choice.
Even at 18, he adds enough quality to the squad to prevent Klopp from spending further on a winger so Pulisic definitely is a requirement at Anfield. However, it will need a drastic change in the system for Klopp to use him regularly, and that might have its own effects, at least at the start of the season.
Do you think Christian Pulisic and his exciting abilities will be on show in England next season?
