Antonio Conte will be a happy man as his side has pulled themselves back from the defeat to Crystal Palace recently, to get back to a comfortable position at the top of the table. The manager is now convinced that his team needs some additions in the summer and is ready to splash the cash on a number of stars. He is extensively searching for a player to partner N Golo Kante in the midfield in the first team next season and has been linked with some of the biggest names in Europe. One name that is now doing the rounds around the Bridge is Lazio star Lucas Biglia.
The Italian outfit has been in prime form this season and are standing in the fourth place in the Serie A points table and they insist that the 31-year old will sign a new deal before the end of the season. But Conte is reportedly a fan of the player and is ready to lure him to the Stamford Bridge this summer. He is out of a contract and will be available for free and is a decent player. But what will he add to the squad at Chelsea?
Having played 48 senior games for Argentine in a midfield role, the 31-year old is one of the most experienced midfielders in the Serie A at the moment and has been in fine form this season. With four goals and two assists to add to his industry, Biglia has been an influential player in Lazio’s rise to the top of the table and he is an important player for the club even in the future. He has close to 100 league appearances for the Italian side and has never played in England but Conte is convinced that he is the man to improve the mettle in the midfield for his side.
Known for his ability to read the game, Biglia is a sublime passer who has great vision even when under pressure. He is a central midfielder who likes to sit deep and dictate the game, which his technique allows him to perform to perfection. He can ping the ball long, or also turn past a defender with similar ease and is a player who is easy to the eye.
He is creative, but is also disciplined in defense and is a player who will fit into Conte’s style superbly well. The Italian manager may well let Spanish playmaker Cesc Fabregas leave this summer, and will need a player who can cover for the first team stars and Biglia is more than just a decent option. At 31, he may not be used as the first-choice partner to N Golo Kante but the Frenchman and his attributes are complementary to that of Biglia at Lazio and this partnership could easily scare a couple of clubs in the Premier League. Do you think Chelsea should convince Biglia to join the club this summer?
