Chelsea is having a great run this season standing right on the top of the Premier League and will certainly look forward to a good run in the next season as well. For that, Antonio Conte is looking to bring in some players who have been performing well for the last few seasons in the Premier League and in Europe. One such player is Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk, who is being pursued by Chelsea for some time now.
With their inspirational captain John Terry already announcing his departure from Stamford Bridge at the end of the current season, Chelsea have been looking to rope in the 25-year-old in order to add someone capable enough to replace the ex-England centre back in the squad. The Dutch defender is currently under treatment for an injury that he picked up a few months ago. However, Chelsea is still looking to bring in the star to the Bridge once his current club let him leave.
Antonio Conte, Chelsea’s Italian coach, is looking to repeat the same feat as his fellow Italian Carlo Ancelotti, who won the Premier League title in his very first year with Chelsea. The inspirational Italian has been playing with the 3-4-3 system of late, in which Virgil Van Dijk can play a very important role.
Abilities to hold onto the ball for a very long time and intercept passes played between the opponent players make Virgil Van Dijk a prized possession for the Saints. The Dutch defender likes to dominate his area in the air and his dribbling skills are well appreciated by his teammates. The defender is very good at clearing out balls from the defensive area, thus keeping the opponents away from scoring.
The London club is looking to bring in the Dutch defender from Southampton along with Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton in a £120 million swoop to strengthen the side for the next season. Antonio Conte is looking to revamp the side with rumours about talismanic player Eden Hazard leaving the side to join Real Madrid next season.
However, rumours suggest that rival clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City are also in pursuit of the highly rated defender, hoping to land him to induce a boost to their defence for the next season. Merseyside club Everton is also said to be in for a bid to take the currently injured Dutch defender to Goodison Park. So surely, Van Dijk will make Chelsea a stronger side next season.
