Chelsea are one of the many clubs that are searching for quality defenders in the summer transfer market. While Antonio Conte is busy looking for some of the biggest names in the sport, he is also having an eye on youngsters who can come good in years to come.
One such player that is constantly linked with a move to the Premier League is Fulham wonder kid Ryan Sessegnon.
Reports today suggest that he as has an agreement with the London club over a new contract at the end of the season and this might see his price skyrocket this summer.
The likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in his signature but what will Sessegnon add to the Stamford Bridge this summer?
Born and brought up in England, the 16-year old has five appearances for the U19 side for England and is probably the most exciting player in the current domestic circuit.
He broke into the first team at the Craven Cottage this season and already has close to 20 senior appearances for the side in the Championship. He is growing in stature literally by the game and has the potential to become the best in the business.
Capable of also playing as a genuine winger Sessegnon is a left back by trait, with most attributes that would make him a genuine hit in the Premier League.
A willing runner who loves to spend more time in the opponent’s half, Sessegnon is a smart passer and a consistent crosser of the ball, two things that make him a threat in front of goal. He is a full-back who loves to take on the opposition full-back, to get in behind the defence to try and find the perfect cross.
He is full of running which allows him to get back to his defensive duties, even when committed in attack.
He is not the strongest in the air but at just 16, he has the whole of his career to improve on it. But he is an excellent passer of the ball, something that will convince Antonio Conte at the Bridge.
Conte has used a 3-4-3 system this season and is expected to stick with it the next campaign. Italian star Marcos Alonso is the first choice left wing-back for Chelsea but Conte has no real replacement for him in the first team and is convinced that the young Fulham star is the right option.
At his age, Sessegnon has had enough exposure and will be ready for the next step. A step up to the Premier League can always be overwhelming but Sessegnon is a player tailor made for Conte’s style of play and this might help him grow as a player in years to come. But do you think Conte should spend on Sessegnon this summer?
