Chelsea football club have become a force to reckon with. While the home defeat to Crystal Palace might have served as a warning call, Chelsea hosted Manchester City gunning to become the first team to do a double over Pep Guardiola in the league. Goals from Eden Hazard, one clinically slotted finish and second off the rebound from his penalty sealed the deal while City couldn’t do enough after Aguero’s equaliser.
The Best & Worst Chelsea Players Rated From Their Hugely Important Win Vs Manchester City
1) GK: Thibaut Courtois – 6.5/10
Should have done way better for Aguero’s equaliser but he redeemed himself well and made a crucial save to deny Sane and then Aguero late in the game. Those saves were very important.
2) RWB: Caesar Azpilicueta – 7.5/10
Absolutely bossed the right wing and outclassed Sane. He also got an assist for Hazard’s opener. World Class performance!
3) CB: Kurt Zouma – 6/10
Tidy and composed on the return. He was subbed off when Chelsea reshuffled the tactics.
4) CB: David Luiz – 7/10
Weighed in heavily on Aguero again and won the battle on the day. He’s grown into a fine centre-back under Conte. Solid.
5) CB: Gary Cahill – 6/10
Was not called into action much but did his job effectively whenever needed.
6) LWB: Marcos Alonso – 6.5/10
Let De Bruyne get into good positions and had to square up against Navas as well but he did a very good job overall. Timed his tackles with precision and maintained his position well.
7) CM: N’golo Kante – 5.5/10
Not the best of games for Kante. He rightly got booked in the second half. Showed energy but it just wasn’t like his usual days.
8) CM: Cesc Fabregas – 6/10
Always looked keen to play a pass and release a team-mate. A stupendous block denied him a goal and he kept things ticking for Chelsea throughout the evening.
9) RF: Pedro Rodriguez – 6.5/10
Won the penalty and Hazard scored from it as Chelsea took the lead. Otherwise, Pedro wasn’t really involved in the game and sometimes showed glimmers of his pace and his creativeness but not totally productive today.
10) FW: Diego Costa – 4/10
Poor again today and looks like a frustrated soul that needs motivation and a reminder of his quality. His discipline has been pathetic off late.
11) LF: Eden Hazard – 9/10
Just pure class dripping from every touch of his! Eden Hazard was the focal point again today in what was a masterclass of a performance.
