Borussia Dortmund were hammered by league leaders FC Bayern at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. The Black and Yellows had an awful evening as they conceded four goals to the mighty Bayern and thus, failed to follow up their win against Bayern in the reverse fixture. The loss lessens Dortmund’s chance of making into the top three while they also have a tough fixture against Monaco in midweek’s Champions League fixture.
The BEST & WORST Borussia Dortmund Players Rated From Their Defeat Vs Bayern Munich
Roman Burki (7.5/10): Couldn’t do much to save all of the four goals he conceded on the night. Was basically left alone by his teammates in defence and actually did pretty well to save a few efforts from Arjen Robben. But a bad night overall for the Swiss goalkeeper.
Felix Passlack (5/10): An absolutely horrible performance from the young defender who didn’t have much to provide in defence or offence for that matter. Was outclassed by David Alaba for most of the time.
Matthias Ginter (6/10): Surprisingly, Ginter didn’t make any individual error which can be construed as a step forward compared to all the recent game he has played so far. But a poor defensive performance nonetheless.
Sokratis (6/10): Did well at times to keep out the likes of Robert Lewandowski. Remained strong at the back and used his sheer strength to good effect. However, the Greek centre-back was almost singled out due to the lack of support from his defensive partners.
Marc Bartra (6/10): Left the defence exposed more than once. Most notably when he tried to win a header in midfield but failed to do so, while Robben was left completely open with acres of space. Eventually, he sealed Bayern’s win thanks to his poor positioning.
Marcel Schmelzer (5/10): It was clearly evident that the 28-year-old wasn’t fully fit for the clash right from the start. Struggled to get in the thick of things and couldn’t do much to keep out Arjen Robben either.
Gonzalo Castro (7/10): Some neat passes in the first half but faded as the game wore on. Castro got nullified shortly after Robben’s goal in the second half and ended up having a poor ratio in midfield. The lack of Julian Weigl certainly hurt him big time.
Raphael Guerreiro (9/10): Absolutely stunning display from the Portuguese, who was the only bright spark in a dire Dortmund side. Was unstoppable with his neat passing and movements and his link up play was delicious. Complemented his excellent performance with a stunning goal from long range to bring back hope for the BVB fans.
Christian Pulisic (6.5/10): Not the greatest of games for the American teenager. Pulisic clearly failed to shine against an experienced Philip Lahm, who kept him in his pocket most of the time.
Ousmane Dembele (7.5/10): It was a challenging evening for the French international who failed to exhibit his sheer quality against Bayern. Nervousness got the better of him, as he fluffed some good opportunities in certain moments and his improvisation was absolutely horrid.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (7/10): Did nothing to bring danger to Bayern’s defensive line. Missed a good opportunity to bring Dortmund back into the game. Mostly, the Gabonese striker had to spend time in Javi Martinez’s pocket.
