Bayern Munich made a statement to the entire European football fraternity with a dominating 4:1 win against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. Coming on the back of a shock defeat against Hoffenheim, Bayern made full use of their opportunity to sweep aside a hapless BVB side. Goals from Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and a brace from Robert Lewandowski secured the victory for the record champions. With the win, Carlo Ancelotti’s men solidify their grip at claiming their fifth successive Bundesliga titles.
The BEST And The WORST Bayern Munich Players Rated From Their Win Vs Borussia Dortmund
Sven Ulreich (8/10): It’s always necessary that you have to produce something big if you are filling up the shoes of Manuel Neuer in goal and Ulreich, on the night stepped up his game to make some decent saves including a shot from Christian Pulisic. More importantly, he made himself a passing option which was pretty useful against the high octane pressing from Dortmund.
Philip Lahm (8.5/10): Age has nothing on this little magician. Lahm was absolutely amazing in the right back position, where he showed his offensive skills but at the same time, kept out the threat of Christian Pulisic. His scrumptious cross led to the opener from Franck Ribery.
Javi Martinez (8.5/10): Replaced Mats Hummels incredibly well. His smart positional sense was just too good for the opposition as he kept Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in his pocket for most of the game.
Jerome Boateng (8/10): Complimented Javi Martinez from the back very well. Showcased some amazing defensive effort to knock off any danger provided by the Dortmund attack. Could have been more indulged with his signatory long balls.
David Alaba (8/10): He remains one of Bayern’s finest assets in defence. The Austrian International provided great support for a certain Franck Ribery.
Xabi Alonso (8.5/10): An industrious effort from the Spaniard. Covered a lot of ground, and despite all the pace Dortmund has, it didn’t trouble the former Real Madrid midfielder. He was a strong link which kept Bayern ticking in midfield.
Arturo Vidal (6.5/10): Partnered well alongside Xabi Alonso. The Chilean midfielder was very combative in the middle and it did cause some problems for the opposition. However, his poor clearance resulted in a goal for Raphael Guerreiro.
Thiago Alcantara (8.5/10): Once again an amazing display from the former Barcelona midfielder. Thiago’s utterly delicious passing and movements set the sails high for FC Bayern. It’s about time, Bayern offer him a new contract extension offer before anyone else gets closer to the 25-year-old.
Arjen Robben (9.5/10): Easily one of the best players of the night, Arjen Robben was like the one man army for FC Bayern, except it wasn’t literally one man. His sharp movements and dribbling skills were just too much for the opposition. Cut inside the edge of the penalty area more than one would expect, but it was finally worth it, as he curled in a beautiful low drive into the back of the net. Also kept Roman Burki at constant pressure with his sharp shooting skills.
Franck Ribery (9/10): Another player that caused some serious trouble to this weak looking Dortmund side. Ribery was extremely committed on the night and was literally unstoppable when combining with Arjen Robben or Thiago. His bright spark lit the fire up for Bayern and an early goal was just as much important.
Robert Lewandowski (9.5/10): Last but not the least, Robert Lewandowski keeps on his impressive record against his former club Borussia Dortmund. Scored two important goals which took the game away from the visitors. His power and commitment completely nullified the opposition defence. He now moves ahead of his competitor Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the leading goal scorer in the Bundesliga with 26 goals.
