Aston Villa’s winning streak has come a little too late in the Championship to be able to mount a serious challenge for their Premier League. 7 wins in their last 9 games in the second tier of English football might have placed them 11th on the league table but they are still 11 points behind Sheffield Wednesday who are placed 6th, which is the last playoff spot. Nonetheless, it is relishing seeing the Villans getting back in the scheme of things.
However, Steve Bruce (if he stays confined to the managerial post) would have to bolster his squad and one of the primary areas he needs to focus is the striking department.
Time and again, we have seen earlier in the season that there has been a clear dearth in their goal-getting flamboyance and apparently, one of the reports have stated that Aston Villa are eyeing Eintracht Frankfurt’s hitman Haris Seferovic.
Seferovic has banged 2 goals in 19 appearances (11 of which were as a substitute) in the German Bundesliga so far and his contract is due to expire in the summer, although the Eagles do have an option to extend his deal for another year.
The 25-year-old might not be a prolific goal scorer but his daunting physical presence and the ability to knit the side meticulously in the final third is what might have interested Bruce.
Seferovic does have the calibre but his career hasn’t really kicked off so far. He does work well with his back facing the goal, allows the midfielders to penetrate into the box and do the damage.
Besides, he does cater to the defensive needs of his employers by tracking back and getting out of his comfort zone. One of the most impressive attributes about the Swiss is that he never refrains from getting into the physical battles but often gets booked in the process.
Should the former Hull man successfully get the deal over the line, the Lions would get something out of the box up front. Seferovic does have a decent pace and is versatile enough to be engineered in the striker’s spot as well as on the wings.
He is tactically sound and works not for himself but for the side he plies his trade for. Moreover, he is good in the air as well and would be a shrewd addition to Aston Villa’s armoury if he does make a move to the Villa Park.
