In a season which has been agonisingly painful for Blackburn Rovers, Sam Gallagher has arguably been the silver lining in the otherwise worrisome form. The Riversiders are battling the relegation dogfight in the Championship at this point in time to avoid seeing themselves in League One next term and have very little positives to pluck out from what has transpired so far but despite their stagnancy, Gallagher has really thrived and has already banged in 11 goals and registered 1 assist in the English second tier.
Their fellow Championship side, Aston Villa, might not have had the best of starts after getting demoted to the second tier but have found a footing in their fixtures of late, more often than not. However, Steve Bruce’s men will be seeing themselves in the Championship next time around as they’ll seek to be promoted to the Premier League and would really have to bolster their squad once the curtains of the summer transfer window get lifted. Reportedly, one of the players to have fallen on the radar of the Villans is none other than Gallagher.
Finding the back of the not been an easy task for the Lions and a striker who could bang 10-15 goals would be at the top of the wish-list. The plethora of stars in the attacking setup of Southampton implies that the 21-year-old might be finding himself as a surplus to the requirements of the Saints and might be eventually struck off the books in the summer. He has thoroughly impressed with the way he has plied his trade ever since his loan move to the Ewood Park, which has carved a timely reminder of how good he is and Aston Villa are one of the teams to be closely monitoring his progress.
Tall, strong and clinical, Gallagher has the attributes needed to be the poacher for any English side. Despite his fruitless loan spell with MK Dons last season, he has answered his critics well this season. His commendable aerial presence and technical edge add to his sound control on the ball. Besides, his touches on the ball are exemplary and he has the knack of blasting past defenders in the blink of an eye do make him a standout performer. Should the deal manage to get over the line, Aston Villa would be laying their hands on a player who could only blossom in times to come.
