Arsene Wenger is already planning for life next season and is looking at some of the best European stars to improve the squad. The likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil are yet to commit their futures to the club so it increasingly looks like Wenger will have to spend big this summer to help his side compete with the best next season. One such player the manager wants at the club next season is RB Leipzig sensation, Emil Forsberg.
According to reports from the Sun, Arsenal are plotting a £20m bid for the Swedish international at the end of the season and will battle it out with English rivals Liverpool for his signature. Having helped the German side to the Champions League next season with eight goals and 17 assists in the Bundesliga, Forsberg is up there with the most creative players in Europe at the moment, but what will he add to the squad at the Emirates?
Capable of playing on either flank, Forsberg is a genuine winger who loves to take his man on. He is adept at cutting inside and making space for himself but is equally good in beating the backline to put in accurate crosses into the box. He is gifted with some great technical ability and add that to his vision, Forsberg is a potential star for the future.
He moved to Leipzig at the start of the previous season and has found some sizzling form in the Bundesliga this season. He also has 25 senior appearances for Sweden, all at an age of 25, making him an experienced option for Arsenal.
As already mentioned, former La Liga duo Ozil and Sanchez might be heading out of the club if Arsenal miss out on Champions League football this summer and Wenger will have to spend big if he wants to improve the squad next season. But lack of European football may hamper this deal as well, as Forsberg will be tempted to play in the elite competition next season.
The 25-year old still has to work on the physical aspect of his game, which might make him a liability in the English league but he has enough creativity stored that can help even the best clubs in Europe. He has revealed that he was a boyhood Liverpool fan and a bid from the Red of Merseyside might all but seal a transfer for the winger but Wenger will be aware that he has all the attributes that can make him a hit at the Emirates and will want to make sure that he does not miss out on him this summer.
If Sanchez and Ozil leave, Forsberg will become a necessity for Arsenal, but the Bundesliga man could help them improve the quality in the squad, even if the first team duo at the club remain for another season.
