Arsenal might just have a slim chance of landing one of the hottest prospects in Europe this summer. Kingsley Coman has been a revelation in Bundesliga playing at Bayern Munich for the past two seasons and if recent reports are to be believed, the player is now having second thoughts about sealing a permanent deal with the German giants.
This development has put numerous Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal on red alert. Currently, on loan from Serie A defending champions Juventus, Coman has seen his first team chances drying up under Carlo Ancelotti and his plans with the team might alter.
His decision to stay with the club could get a further blow if Bayern plans to bring in Bayern Leverkusen star Julian Brandt this summer. Coman’s long-term future looks unsorted at the moment and a move back to Juventus doesn’t seem feasible too, as the Old Lady is brimming with stars. All this indicates a likeliness for the 20-year-old moving to the Premier League.
Arsenal are expecting huge changes at the club, of course, most of it will not be related to the squad. The transfer policies and managerial positions are under the scanner big time and numerous names have been suggested. Few arrivals and departure are sure to happen and a significant one would be if Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil decides to leave the North-London side.
With Theo Walcott hugely inconsistent, mostly on away turfs, a quality forward on the flanks is a must for the Gunners. And Coman fits the bill perfectly for them. He is young, he has brilliant passing attributes, he believes in beautiful football and most conventionally, he is French. Coman has all the qualities manager Arsene Wenger likes and if the club fails to retain Sanchez, Coman could be a realistic target.
An academy product of Paris Saint-Germain, Coman broke into the first team as a 16-year-old. Juventus wasted no time in picking him up when his contract expired with the French giants the next season. He was sent to Bayern next season on loan and he has managed just 57 appearances in two seasons, scoring eight goals and 12 assists.
While Coman will be a level up for Arsenal’s attack, landing him will be very difficult for Wenger. Manchester City leads the race in his pursuit and Pep Guardiola’s good relationship with the player makes Etihad a likely destination. A right-wing by nature, Coman can also play through the middle and from the left, just as Guardiola appreciates.
