The 31st round of the Premier League fixtures provided some high octane entertainment as teams around the points table dropped a few points on the night. The likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal were all victorious in but Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool dropped points at the top of the table. Leicester City continued their decent run of form with yet another victory while Hull City also managed to take all three points from this round.
While Crystal Palace finally tasted defeat, Burnley took three crucial points from Stoke, making this round an interesting one. There were a number of star individual performances which took their respective teams to victory but who were the best players in the round? Here are the top-3 player from the midweek round of fixtures in the Premier League.
Mesut Ozil (Arsenal):
The German playmaker has been lethargic and out of form recently but he was the man of the hour for the Gunners in their clash against the Hammers at the Emirates. Ozil was looking confident right from the first whistle and was all over the visiting defence, troubling them all night.
He picked up a goal and assist on the night and did it just for the second time this season, the first one also coming against the Hammers in the reverse fixture. In a time during which he has been out of form, Ozil was the brightest spot for Arsenal in this game and Wenger will hope that he can continue the form until the end of the season.
Eden Hazard (Chelsea):
The Blues managed to keep up their lead at the top of the table with a 2-1 victory over Manchester City and Hazard was the architect of this result. Enjoying a superb season at the Stamford Bridge, Hazard is probably one of the most dangerous players in the league at the moment and he was the difference between Chelsea and City on the night.
Constantly troubling the likes of Jesus Navas and John Stones, Hazard created a number of chances and also scored a 25 minute first half brace that was enough for the Blues to take all three points from this tie. Surely, Hazard is the most important weapon for Conte from now to the end of the season.
Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur):
The Spurs took all three points from their trip to the Liberty in dramatic circumstances as three goals in the dying minutes of the game gave the visiting side all three points after Swansea lead the game for most of the night.
The Spurs carved Swansea open on a number of occasions in the game but it took 88 minutes for them to open the scoring as Dele Alli found himself with a tap-in to convert late in the game. The Spurs then went on to score another two on the night to take all three points from the tie and it was Dele Alli who gave them this victory.
His quick thinking in the final third got him the goal and the assist for Eriksen’s goal late in the game making him one of the most effective players this weekend.
