Antonio Conte is set to be a busy man this summer as he looks to add some quality to his first team to help them compete with the best next season. He is set to spend big on top transfer targets and this might see him let a few players leave this summer.
One such player whose future at the club is in doubt is Spanish midfielder, Cesc Fabregas.
The former Barcelona man was linked with an exit even before the start of the season but Fabregas went on to make 30 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, scoring six goals and picking up ten assists and standing as one of the most productive midfielders at the club this season.
However, he is wanted by AC Milan yet again and Conte might be looking to offload him completely this time around. But should Chelsea let him leave?
The Italian manager is looking to add some creativity and mettle to the midfield and wants a player who can complement N Golo Kante in the midfield next season.
The likes of Youri Tielemans, Naby Keita and Thiago Maia are two of the names constantly linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge. The manager is sure to spend on a midfielder this summer and that will push Fabregas further down the pecking order.
The Spaniard is still one of the best playmakers in the world at the moment and is just 29. He has a fair bit of football left in his legs but it does not look like Conte wants him to be at the club next season.
Nemanja Matic has done a decent job this season and can help when Chelsea need to shut shop but they need some creativity in the midfield, to complement the industry of Kante.
Fabregas can do that to perfection, but Conte needs a more dynamic player who can also do the dirty work and it is imperative that Fabregas will not be the first choice anymore at the club.
The Spanish midfielder helped Chelsea to their last league title but he is no longer a requirement at the club and will only stay if he is happy to play the fourth fiddle.
Chelsea play in all four competitions next season and will need all the depth they can acquire this summer. So, selling a star like Fabregas can only make things tougher for them this summer.
But Conte does not look like he believes Fabregas can start games regularly this season so it might be up to the player to stay at the club if he is up for a bit-part role at the club.
The 29-year old is contracted with Chelsea till 2019 and may yet stay at the club for another year before moving on. But with AC Milan calling, Conte might not be able to keep hold of the midfielder, even if he decides to do so at the end of the season. Do you think Chelsea should sell Fabregas this summer?
