Celtic will be looking for new acquisitions in the transfer market as they go into the next season. The Hoops’ performance this season has been beyond imagination under new manager Brendan Rodgers and he will be handed a substantial transfer kitty to entice the players he wants.
However, Celtic hasn’t been able to transform their domestic form into their European campaign. They were mauled 7-0 by Barcelona in the Champions League group stage and had to exit the lucrative European competition in the initial stage only.
Inspite all that, the Scottish club’s financial condition is stable and we could expect a number of big-money arrivals. The current squad is very solid but Rodgers has to invest in new talents to take that next huge step in Europe next season.
Patrick Roberts’ loan spell is coming to an end and it is very unlikely that Man City will allow the forward to stay on next season. A number of clubs are interested in Moussa Dembele and should he leave, they would need an alternative to replace him.
3 Players Celtic Could Target Including Chelsea And Arsenal Stars
Jack Wilshere
The 25-year-old could be a surprise inclusion for the Hoops. Rodgers knows him for his Liverpool days as he came face to face with him a number of times. Wilshere had been battling with injuries for the last few seasons but this season he managed to stay fit for a brief period before succumbing to a season-ending injury late on.
Arsene Wenger loaned him to Bournemouth where so far his performance was satisfactory. The England international is capable of playing in both central and attacking midfield and would give Rodgers a number of viable options. Rodgers has rotated a number of players in the midfield but hasn’t been able to find that accurate partnership. Signing Wilshere could prove to be a big gamble but if he remains fit he could be a valuable asset to the team.
However, this transfer is still really unlikely as wage issues will remain a huge concern including the fact that Wilshere, even if he is to leave Arsenal, will probably want to stay on in the Premier League only.
John Terry
The Chelsea veteran recently announced that he is going to end his long association with Chelsea at the end of this season. Terry will be free after the season gets over and Rodgers could use this opportunity to hijack him to Scotland.
The 36-year-old still has a few years of football left in him and could just be the right person to ensure that Celtic performs better in the Champions League.
Jermain Defoe
The 34-year-old has been a revelation this season for Sunderland and with the Black Cats on the verge of relegation, Defoe will be a bargain buy for Celtic.
However, the thing to remember is that the 34-year-old recently got a call-up to the Three Lions and he needs to continue plying his trade in a so called big League to make himself available for selection for the England national team.
