Arsenal seem beyond repair this season with neither the manager nor the players ready for the task as the club faces the danger of missing out on the top four for the first time in 21 years. However, a lot of changes, from the managerial post to hiring new backroom staff to the squad, could well transpire as soon as the season ends.
Here are the 3 players Arsenal could target next season to get back the edge.
Benjamin Mendy- The wrath that Arsenal’s young Hector Bellerin faced at the end of Gunners’ humiliating defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace was a hint that his superstar stature has plummeted. The Spaniard had enjoyed a brilliant run last season with many touting him as the best right-back in the League, but things have gone south this year.
Arsenal will definitely have to bring in competition next season in that position and Benjamin Mendy seems to be the perfect candidate for it. The Frenchman has shot to fame with his outmuscling runs and brilliant defending on that right defensive flank and could be just the man the Gunners need to solve their defensive shakiness. Despite his young age (22), he seems to have single-handedly pulled the team at times and could be a great leader in the future.
Andrea Belotti- Alexis Sanchez’s future at the club has been the most speculated subject in the past few months, and with Arsenal losing their way out in the league, it has only increased in recent weeks. The Chilean is said to be unhappy with the manager and could leave the North-London club at the end of the season if Arsenal don’t decide to hold on for one more year, in which case he will be out for free.
His sale will definitely be a big money affair and Arsenal might just be able to bring in this Serie A beast. The 23-year-old Torino forward has been in devastating form this season and resembles the Chilean in many aspects, primarily on his work rate and skills on the ball.
Yannick Carrasco- Another position, which has been quite unattended by the club for long, has been that of Theo Walcott. The Arsenal faithful have enjoyed a non-competitive run in the side for long now and his efficacy has not improved even a bit.
Like Sanchez or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arsenal need someone who could make things happen from the attacking third, mainly from flanks. And Carrasco looks tailor made for it. The Atletico Madrid winger has been one of the hottest prospects in Europe this season and Wenger is also known to be a great fan of the 23-year-old. His aggressive approach could become an indispensable part of the Arsenal side if they sign him.
