Pep Guardiola is set to undergo a squad makeover in the upcoming summer transfer window and a lot of players including Bacary Sagna might get the sack. The 34-year-old is in his last few months of his contract and he is yet to be offered a new deal by Manchester City. Sagna has played 16 matches in the Premier League and has given a pretty fair performance, racking up an assist as well.
Pep Guardiola is likely to sanction the arrival of a new right back as he is very adamant to get rid of his ageing defence. Sagna has been in the Premier League for over 10 years and has ample experience of English top tier football having arrived at Arsenal in 2007. He won’t have a dearth of suitors if City prefer to release him at the end of this season. The player is on the wishlist of a number of clubs and a move might happen soon.
Three Possible Destinations For Bacary Sagna
West Ham United
The Hammers have reportedly offered Sagna a one-year deal to solve their long crisis in the right back position. Slaven Bilic has tried a number of players but none of them has succeeded in that position. Michail Antonio was the only player who looked comfortable on the right side of the defence but Bilic has been using him further upfront. Both Sam Byram and Alvaro Arbeloa have been far from impressive and Bilic had to employ midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate in the right back slot to give the problem a temporary solution. A move for Sagna would be good for both the club and the player.
Swansea
Paul Clement’s side have been flirting with the relegation zone. Successive defeats at the hands of Hull City and Bournemouth has toughened their chances of revival in the Premier League. Clement has only two proper right-backs at his disposal and both are currently recovering from injuries. Angel Rangel’s return date from injury is unknown while Kyle Naughton might not be fit in time to play in the next match. Sagna could offer a temporary solution for Clement if the Wales club manages to survive the relegation scare this time.
Arsenal
A possible reunion with Arsene Wenger might be on the cards although the gaffer hasn’t decided yet on his future. In Hector Bellerin, Arsenal have one of the best right backs in the world but Wenger has no sufficient cover for him. Carl Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy both could be shown the exit door and a deal for Sagna might just happen.
