West Ham United aren’t where they would have wanted to be this season: 11th on the league table after 26 league outings with merely 33 points, Slaven Bilic hasn’t really hit the rights chords so far this season and one of the most notable reasons for their mediocrity has been the apparent failure on the part of their attackers to find the back of the net. When a side aspires to play in Europe, they must be doing much more than collecting just 35 goals in 26 appearances which perfectly sum the inconvenient aid from their strike force.
The departure of Dimitri Payet from their setup has indeed left a massive void to be filled and Bilic is believed to be doing a lot of homework to get his prospective targets well under his radar after a series of failures to get a striker in the January transfer window, including Scott Hogan and Jermain Defoe. The likes of Ashley Fletcher, Diafra Sakho and Andy Carroll haven’t really sufficed the needs of a prolific frontman for the Hammers and it is reported that the Croatian is going to make an investment on Burnley’s sensational striker Andre Gray.
Bilic’s interest for acquiring the services of Gray makes perfect sense, for his goal scoring prowess has made him a huge success at Turf Moor. With 9 goals in all competitions for the Clarets, the 25-year-old has raw pace, has a strong physique to outmuscle the resistance which the Premier League’s defenders have on offer.
He judges his movements on and off the ball in a meticulous manner and has a decent technique of holding up the ball up front as well. Besides, he never refrains from chasing back to support his defenders and can be deemed as a complete footballer in the top tier of English football.
More than anything else, West Ham United have a dire need to get someone in their squad who could mobilise the efforts of the midfielders into productive output. Gray challenges for the ball, gets into the tight areas and his cunning passes have always been a boon for Sean Dyche’s side.
Interestingly, the former Brentford striker has just over one year left on his current contract and the summer transfer window would be an excellent opportunity for the London-based outfit to rope him in to get a striker who has the calibre to bang 15-odd goals to eradicate their ongoing dearth of getting goals on a regular basis.
