Three Worst Signings Of This Season
Alvaro Arbeloa
One of the most high-profile defenders to have donned the West Ham United colours. The decorated right back arrived at the London Stadium in the summer of 2016 but has failed to gain the trust of Slaven Bilic. The defender was signed from Real Madrid on a free transfer but has failed to live up to the expectations.
At the age of 34, no one could have expected much from him and he was basically brought as a back up to Sam Byram and Michail Antonio but he didn’t show the necessary pedigree or desire which is needed in the English top-flight. In one game he even forgot to bring his kit bag which easily indicates his lack of involvement in the game.
Arbeloa had his injury problems since arriving in England and has managed a total of 256 minutes in the Premier League so far. The Hammers are unlikely to extend his contract beyond this season and the former La Liga and Champions League medal holder will bid goodbye as soon as the season ends.
Claudio Bravo
Pep Guardiola might have pulled off the biggest transfer goof up of his career, Claudio Bravo. The gaffer brought the former Barcelona keeper to replace Joe Hart who was sent on loan to Torino. But Bravo has been anything but what his name suggests and has been statistically the worst keeper in the Premier League this season.
He had a horrible game against Everton as the Toffees pumped in four goals past the hapless Chile International. Guardiola preferred a goalkeeper who is a very good passer of the ball but Bravo has endured a torrid time in trying to settle in.
The gaffer had to deploy Willy Caballero in the goal and the keeper has been decent so far.
Michy Batshuayi
The Belgian has rarely had a chance to showcase his talent. He is yet to start a single Premier League game under Conte who has been using Diego Costa up front.
Batshuayi was signed for £33 m from Marseille this summer but has been left on the bench as Diego Costa has been in prolific form. The 23-year-old has been visibly frustrated and it is natural for someone his age and talent. He needs to step up in terms of minutes and his impact but what is, without a doubt, is that he has been a total waste of money till now and is unlikely to carry on beyond this season.
