Merely one win in their last five games in the Premier League has reduced West Ham United’s chances of finishing high on the league table as they are stagnating in the eleventh spot. Slaven Bilic showed a lot of charisma initially after giving his consent to manage the London-based outfit but they seem to be going backwards under him so far this season.
Prior to the start of this campaign, it was believed that the Hammers would impose themselves as a substantially strong contender for at least the Europa League spot but they have failed to rise to the occasion. More than anything else, it has been their sporadic attacking setup which has done the maximum damage to the ambition of the club, for they have found the back of net merely 38 times in 28 league outings and the exit of Dimitri Payet in the January transfer window has worsened their case further.
West Ham United are likely to make some changes in the summer and apparently, Andy Carroll would be one of the first ones to face the axe. The 28-year-old striker has seen his season getting dented by injuries and iffy form more often than not, as he scored merely 6 goals in 14 appearances with no assists to his name. As a replacement of the erratic Englishman, it is reported that the Hammers have put the out-of-favour Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge on their radar as a potential replacement.
Without any shadow of a doubt, Sturridge has failed to register himself in the good books of Liverpool’s gaffer, Jurgen Klopp and is desperately seeking for an exit route in search of regular game time under his belt. However, with Bilic aiming to modify the way his side plies their trade, Sturridge would be an ideal asset to have to put his tactical nous into practice. In a situation where the 27-year-old wants to make a fresh start at a new club after undergoing an injury-hit career with the Reds, the move should be beneficial for all the parties involved.
Tall, mobile and experienced, Sturridge loves to run at the defenders, make crispy moves on and off the ball and is quite clinical up front. He would be an immediate upgrade over what West Ham United have with respect to the striking requirements of the club and a word of assurance from the manager might be instrumental in recreating his former self next season.
