West Ham United have bounced back from their jittery start and they are now a very much determined and improved side. They look a re-energised and transformed outfit. But even then they have competition. Burnley and Watford are sniffing around their shoulder and the London club must have to keep up their momentum if they really want to finish higher in the table. In the last few months, the Hammers have been rocked by various issues but Slaven Bilic has managed to keep the team spirit intact.
West Ham are currently in the 11th place with a game against Chelsea in hand. They are 8 points adrift of the relegation zone and also are separated by 16 points from the top six which means they will be looking forward to finishing much higher in the table. Following an upturn in form, reports have emerged that West Ham are considering offering a new contract to Bilic who has been truly exceptional for the team.
But if the Hammers want to finish in the top half of the table, some of their players have to improve even more.
Michail Antonio
The departure of Payet has left a huge void and Bilic has given the task to Michail Antonio to fill in his shoes. The 26-year-old has played in almost every position especially at right back, right wing, right midfield and even as an out an out striker. Antonio’s versatility of playing in various positions has made him a hugely sought after player but with the season set to intensify, he has to deliver at this moment. He won’t be available for the Chelsea match as he is carrying a suspension.
Andy Carroll
West Ham will be hoping that the lanky striker gets fit for the Chelsea clash. Antonio’s unavailability has made Carroll a very important player in terms of Bilic’s strategy.
The player has been struggling to get fit after a groin injury but he might play against League leaders Chelsea. With Diafra Sakho sidelined for a brief period, he is right now the only recognised striker in the ranks and Bilic would be relying heavily on him.
Ashley Fletcher
The Manchester United academy product has all the qualities to be a top notch striker but hasn’t taken his chances so far. The 21-year-old has started only two games so far but if he is given some game time he could be a future star at the London Stadium.
