Celtic are flying high under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers this season and they have been so good that they are likely to be crowned as the invincible champions of the top tier of Scottish football. While their core team have been hitting the right chords, some of their personnel have either been barely used or have been shambolic.
Here are three players who could be heading out of the Celtic Park once the curtains of the summer transfer window get lifted.
Emilio Izaguirre
In the left-back slot for the Celts, the phenomenon burst onto the scene of a certain 19-year-old youngster in the shape of Kieran Tierney and he has amazed the football fraternity. However, the youngster has displaced a long-standing servant for Celtic in the shape of Emilio Izaguirre and has reduced the latter to the stature of a deputy for the full-back role. The Honduras international, at the peak of his career, isn’t happy about the current scenario and this implies that the prospective Ladbrokes Premiership champions are likely to be forced to ship him out at the end of the current campaign.
Gary Mackay-Steven
Amidst the plethora of stars in Celtic’s jam-packed midfield, Gary Mackay-Steven has been a scarcely used commodity and the midfielder has been perennially overlooked under the regime of Rodgers. Mackay-Steven has been handed merely three starts this campaign and even in those, he wasn’t allowed to have a full match under his belt.
The 26-year-old might be training hard to accumulate game time under his belt but the Bhoys aren’t likely to give him to many chances in the final phase of the season and undoubtedly, he is likely to be struck off the books by them once the summer transfer window opens.
Nadir Ciftci
As far as the striker’s role is concerned, the former Liverpool and Swansea City gaffer isn’t likely to tinker with the position of the stellar striker- Moussa Dembele for the remaining fixtures. The Frenchman has been in a fine nick this season and with the availability of Leigh Griffiths in their ranks to deputise for Dembele, Nadir Ciftci’s days at the Celtic Park are severely numbered. The former Dundee United player has been shipped to Ekstraklasa outfit, Pogon Szczecin, on loan in the January transfer window and was previously sent to Super Lig side, Eskisehirspor, but the loan deals haven’t been really up to the mark; so we are confident that he would be gotten rid of in the summer.
