There is a strong rumour going around that if West Ham United does not manage to finish in a respectable position this season, Slaven Bilic might be shown the door. The name which is doing the rounds regarding who could be that replacement is Jaap Stam. After last season’s fairytale, every Hammers supporter would have expected a replication of that performance but things have not gone their way. The departure of Dimitri Payet has left a lasting mark on the London side and his replacement Robert Snodgrass hasn’t really been able to fit in. Although Snodgrass has all the qualities to flourish in the Premier League, he definitely needs time to adjust in his new club.
Andy Carroll hasn’t remained fit and Bilic had to deploy Michail Antonio upfront sometimes to deal with the situation. The entire squad is ravaged by injuries. The arrival of Alvaro Arbeloa couldn’t do much as Cheikhou Kouyate had to fill in the right back position.
Three Players Bilic Has To Retain For West Ham United At Any Cost
Michail Antonio
Arguably the best Hammers player of this season so far. Time and time again, Antonio has proved why he has been called up to the England squad. His versatile capability of playing in almost every position has been a key asset for West Ham United which has been utilised by Bilic.
He has been deployed on the wings, as side backs and further as a proper centre-forward and he hasn’t disappointed ever. Reports emerged that West Ham are very adamant to keep him at the club and are reportedly considering offering him a new contract which will double his wage from around £35,000/week to £70,000/week. With the pressure to finish in the top 10 which is looking bleak at this position, the Hammers needs to keep other suitors regarding Antonio at bay.
Manuel Lanzini
In Lanzini, West Ham United have one of the most talented midfielders of the newer generation. He is not a typical ballplayer but is pretty good utilising spaces. His slick movement and flair in the midfield has helped the team a lot. Lanzini, who is not a winger, has played on the wings a couple of times and has been really impressive.
However, the Hammers need to ensure they tie up Lanzini to a long term contract as they can’t let such a talent go to waste.
Winston Reid
Captain and backbone of the team. Reid has had pretty decent performances and has been rock solid to marshal the Hammers backline. They have been awful defensively but Reid has maintained his form and has been anchoring the backline really well.
