Swansea City were in doldrums in the first half of the season in the Premier League but ever since Paul Clement came on board, the fortunes of the club have changed drastically for the Swans. With 3 wins in their last 5 outings which consists of wins against Leicester City, Southampton and Burnley, Swansea City have managed to crawl past the relegation zone in the upward direction and after 27 games, they have collected 27 points and are currently placed 16th in the league table.
It appears to be likely that the Swans should be able to keep themselves in the top tier next season owing to the recent run of form they have garnered under the tutelage of the 45-year-old gaffer. However, with not much quality or depth to boast about, Swansea City need to shape up a bit. Clement will, of course, aim to beef up the resources at his disposal in the summer transfer window to bolster his team’s credentials next season and reportedly, he has put Burton Albion’s scintillating midfielder, Jackson Irvine in his sights.
Irvine joined Burton Albion in the summer of 2016 from Ross County and has been an instant hit ever since his move to the Pirelli Stadium. The 24-year-old midfielder has been a stunning performer for the Brewers so far this season, banging 7 goals in 23 appearances and creating 22 chances from the central midfield position.
His endeavours haven’t gone unnoticed and he has successfully inked his name in the good books of the football fraternity. He exploits the opposition defence by surging through the middle of the park, knits the side together and displays a perfect blend of attack and defence for Nigel Clough’s side which makes him a quality product to have in any side’s ranks.
Finding the back of the net and dominating the opponents in the midfield has been a serial problem for Swansea City for quite some time now, the evidence of which can be derived from the fact that they have found the back of the net only 35 times this season. Owing to his flamboyance, a knack to score and all-round technical know-how, the Australian international’s move to the Liberty Stadium should excite the Swansea City faithful.
Without any shadow of a doubt, Clement will be active once the transfer window reopens at the end of the season and Swansea City should make a bold move to ensure that they acquire the services of this sensational midfielder in the making.
