Defence
Though the former Czech international is sidelined with a calf injury at the moment, Arsenal will be definitely needing Peter Cech’s leadership to end the season strongly. David Ospina is undoubtedly a good shot stopper, who has some world class reflexes, but Cech’s consistent discipline and assured hands from set-pieces are what makes the difference.
Hector Bellerin, like most Arsenal players, has been off form and he will have to pick it up as soon as the Premier League resumes. The Spaniard is one of a kind in that full-back position and can make a world of difference with his lightning runs. Kieran Gibbs has had a mixed season so far, but he is definitely a better option that Nacho Monreal on that left defensive flank.
It’s time Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi be shown some of their videos of previous games. Possibly the best central defensive duo in the league, they have been suffering from huge loss of confidence. The team relies heavily on them and they have to live up to it.
Midfield
Granit Xhaka could have been the most criticised player in the Premier League this season given the huge price tag he came on the back of, but thanks to Paul Pogba he was overshadowed. But, the Swiss international has nonetheless shown in flashes what he is capable of. If Arsenal stick to the plan, Xhaka could be one of the best registas of the league.
Wenger’s plan of a false number 6 has failed terribly owing to Francis Coquelin’s dismal displays of late. And Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should take his position ideally. The English midfielder has the aggression and affinity to move forward when given space and possesses unlimited stamina. He could provide the perfect cover for Xhaka.
Arsenal have a thick midfield and it’s impossible to predict the strongest combination. Santi Cazorla could have been a huge catalyst if he was fit alongside Aaron Ramsey or Coquelin.
Attack
Mesut Ozil is still the best option in the number 10 and there is no player in the Arsenal squad who could take his place. The flanks should be taken by Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck. The English duo could be devastating on their day, and with an increased work rate on the flanks, they can easily have that impact.
Both possess the pace and exquisite finishing required to deliver at any club in the league, and it’s a shame they have failed to manage it. The attack should be spearheaded by Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean has been absolutely phenomenal this season; his work rate, and skills on the ball are unparalleled. His tenacity to chase defenders makes him a standout performer in any team.
